LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Varnish Software announced new CDN performance milestones for Video on Demand (VOD) and Live Linear use cases.
Varnish Software, an Intel Network Builders ecosystem partner, has tested the performance of its Varnish Edge Cloud solution under real conditions. Testing used 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based servers compliant with the Intel Select Solution for Visual Cloud Delivery Network. These servers have been further configured with hardware acceleration and software optimization, including NUMA discovery capabilities.
The results, first revealed in a virtual demo at MWC Barcelona, show:
- Video on Demand CDN (1 socket): Up to 192 Gbps network throughput with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Platform with 4th Generation Intel DC P5510 SSD
- Video on Demand CDN (2 sockets): Up to 383 Gbps network throughput with 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Platform with 4th Generation Intel DC P5510 SSD
- Linear Live Video CDN: Up to 1.74x better performance on the 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform supporting Intel Optane 200 series persistent memory, compared to the previous generation *
For OEMs, ISs, and CoSPs, the results also establish a specific method for creating faster, more cost-effective CDN solutions capable of handling more users at the same resolution, or serving higher-resolution content at the same resolution. a similar number of users. The combination of high-performance Varnish caching software and the latest generation of Intel processors provides the capacity, I / O and compute performance needed to meet the growing demand for streaming content.
Lars larsson, CEO of Varnish Software said, “Our close collaboration with Intel continues to innovate in CDN performance. It also simplifies deployments, showing how CoSPs can implement the solution and achieve peak performance themselves. “
Espen Braastad, Vice President of Engineering at Varnish Software, added, “Partnering with Intel means we can optimize software and hardware for the most pressing networking challenges. Our latest performance results are due, in part, to the non-version memory access capabilities of the Varnish software, allowing each CPU in a dual processor system to have direct and fast access to memory. “
