New credit card-sized external SSD delivers blazing-fast data transfer speeds in a drop-, water-, and dust-resistant design for indoor and outdoor content creation
Without performance degradation when transferring large files, the T7 Shield is ideal for high definition video recording and editing
Samsung Electronics America, the leader in advanced memory technology, today announced the release of its latest external storage device, the T7 Shield Portable Solid State Drive (PSSD), offering exceptional performance and reliability in a durable design. the size of a credit card. The T7 Shield is the newest addition to the Samsung T7 Portable SSD family, which includes the T7, a daily driver that delivers blazingly fast speeds in a sleek design, and the T7 Touch1a CES-winning PSSD with an integrated fingerprint sensor for better data protection.
“The T7 Shield is ideal for creative professionals and consumers who want a durable, high-performance, and reliable portable SSD. It provides assurance that data will remain protected, even when dropped, exposed to water, or used outdoors,” said Jim Kiczek, vice president of memory marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “The T7 Shield offers broad compatibility, allowing consumers to use it with multiple devices, including PCs, Android smartphones or game consoles.”
IP65 rated durability
The T7 Shield is Samsung’s most durable PSSD to date, making it well suited for outdoor content creators or travelers who want data-rich experiences without having to worry about data loss due to exposure to the elements or life’s misadventures. Carefully designed by Samsung from the inside out, the T7 Shield is shockproof from drops up to three meters2as well as IP65 certified as dustproof and waterproof3. Despite the new rugged design, the T7 Shield is compact and lightweight, weighing just 98 grams.
Outstanding Performance
The T7 Shield offers a read speed of 1050 megabytes per second (MB/s) and a write speed of 1000 MB/s4which are the fastest transfer speeds currently available based on the USB 3.2 Gen2 standard5. It’s about twice as fast as its predecessor, the T5, and up to 9.5 times faster than external hard drives (HDDs)6saving valuable time for consumers, digital creators and professionals.
As performance degradation and overheating can often occur when transferring large files, Samsung has optimized the interior and exterior of the T7 Shield to address these concerns, including incorporating innovations to the surface material and improvements to the software. Therefore, there is no performance degradation even when 2TB files are moved at once, and heat generation is minimized. With the T7 Shield, it is possible to transmit data stably without performance drop7, even when performing continuous data-intensive tasks such as recording, editing, encoding, and rendering high-quality video. This alleviates concerns about inconsistent drive performance.
Broad compatibility and enhanced security
Designed to work on multiple devices, the Samsung T7 Shield can store a large number of images, games as well as 4K and 8K videos, whether on a PC, Mac, smartphone (Android) or console. games.8. Additionally, the T7 Shield has enhanced security (*256-bit AES, Advanced Encryption Standard) with hardware-based encryption so that consumer data can be safely protected even if the T7 Shield is lost. Additionally, it provides access to Samsung’s Magician Software9, which allows users to easily manage the player.
Eco-responsible packaging
As with Samsung’s other portable SSD lines, the T7 Shield uses a third of the tray packaging compared to previous generations, while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions during its production thanks to the efficiency of the production.
Available in beige, black, and blue to suit user preferences, the T7 Shield comes in 1TB and 2TB sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of use cases. The drive comes with a USB Type-C to C cable and a USB Type-C to A cable, and includes a three-year limited warranty with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $159.99 for the 1TB and $289.99 for the 2TB. The T7 Shield is available worldwide starting today. For more information, please visit https://samsung.com/portable-ssd.

2 The drop test was performed under controlled conditions. Drop resistance may vary depending on actual environmental conditions. Drop damage is not covered by warranty.
*Test condition: the device was dropped in free fall on a metal plate at a height of 3 meters.
3 IP (Ingress Protection) ratings define the degrees of protection provided by mechanical enclosures and electrical enclosures against water and dust.
T7 Shield has an IP65 rating based on internal testing under controlled conditions. Water and dust resistance capabilities may vary depending on actual environmental conditions. Damage caused by liquids and dust is not covered by the warranty.
**IPX5 test condition: The device was exposed to fresh water sprayed from a nozzle (Φ6.3mm) 3 meters away at 12.5L/min for 3 minutes.
**IP6X test condition: The device was exposed to 2 kg/m³ of active dust with a pressure of less than 2 kPa for 8 hours in a vacuum chamber.
4 Test system configuration: ASUS Z270 ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO (USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C), 4.20GHz Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K processor, OS – Windows 10 19H2
5 USB3.2 Gen2 is the standard protocol offered on most consumer and business laptops. Throughput is limited due to the ports on the device, not the SSD. Performance may vary depending on host configuration. To achieve maximum read/write speeds of up to 1050/1000 MB/s, respectively, the host device and connecting cables must support USB 3.2 Gen2, and UASP mode must be enabled.
6 Based on internal test results against Samsung 1TB external hard drive (HX-MTD10EA).
7 The T7 Shield maintains above 900MB/s sequential write speed with the 1TB model and 1000MB/s with the 2TB at room temperature (25℃).
8 Compatibility with host devices may vary. Some operating systems may require reformatting the T7 Shield.
