Radio and music mainstay Brad McNally dies in battle with cancer

Brad McNally lost his battle with brain cancer over the weekend, passing away in a Perth hospital.

McNally had been battling the disease since her diagnosis in 2016.

McNally started his career in Canada and then worked in Sweden, Ireland and Finland before settling in Australia.

In Australia he worked at Sea FM, GOLD FM and 92.9 and 96FM of Perth.

He has worked at 96FM on several occasions, most notably as the original Music Director, and more recently when he was Content Director. His role as content director was terminated by ARN in 2015.

He then spent time at Gold Coast’s Hot Tomato until the brain tumor resulted in his retirement.

McNally was also a black belt martial artist and a marathon runner.

Radio veteran Russell Thomas said it was a tragic day and paid tribute to his friend.

“He was a mentor to so many of his colleagues and had a great ‘headset’. Brad also had the option of picking a hit on the first listen. I still have the tapes he made for me of different genres. His taste was eclectic and his enthusiasm for his radio profession was unparalleled. We were all hoping he would beat a cancer that would initially have conquered mere mortals and his years fighting it were inspiring, ”he said.
