Hyundai continues to produce high performance N models, with the latest edition in the family being the Elantra N. With Honda deciding not to offer a Civic Si model for the 2021 model year, it appears that the Elantra N will be released. by Hyundai can not. have arrived at a better time. With the same powertrain as the boisterous Veloster N and Kona N, but in the body of the recently redesigned Elantra, the latest N promises to pack a punch.
Hyundai’s three N models come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. The engine can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The automatic transmission brings an overboot function, which can be engaged at the wheel, which provides an additional 10 hp for 20 seconds. With the quick-change automatic and its available launch control anointing, the Elantra N can hit 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Where the Elantra N differs from other N models is that it has a virtual engine audio system with three different settings.
Beyond the punchy engine, the Elantra N comes with 19-inch wheels, sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, 14.2-inch brake rotors, electronically controlled shock absorbers, limited-slip differential at electronic control and independent rear suspension. These features will ensure that the Elantra N’s turns and brakes are as precise as it accelerates in a straight line.
Inside, the Elantra N features sportier seats with more aggressive bracing and a thick, small-diameter steering wheel with easy-to-access performance buttons. It looks like the Elantra N will come with many of the same high-tech features as the regular Elantra, which will include a 10.3-inch touchscreen, digital dashboard, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. We’re sure the high-performance Elantra will also come with a host of standard safety features, although the automaker has only released information on the global model and not on the vehicle destined for the United States.
Hyundai hasn’t announced pricing for the Elantra N yet, but we expect it to cost slightly more than the Veloster N priced at $ 33,245 with destination. With more tech features and a traditional sedan body style, we expect the Elantra N to be a more popular vehicle than the Veloster N.
With the Honda Civic Si no longer on sale, the Elantra N’s closest rival will be the new 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI. This sedan comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 241 hp. Hot hatchbacks like the Mini Cooper John Cooper Works GP and the Honda Civic Type R offer more performance, but will definitely cost more. When Honda presents a new Civic Si model based on the all-new Civic, we’re sure the Japanese automaker will use the Elantra N as a benchmark, as these two vehicles are expected to be direct competitors.
