The Texas Christian women’s basketball team, at one point early in their game against the Gators, was shooting 63 percent from the field, but the Horned Frogs were unable to secure the victory.

How is it possible? The answer is turnaround. Every 22.

Florida (7-3) came away with a 63-54 victory over the TCU (3-4) on Sunday in Fort Worth, TX, though they were outscored in the paint by senior Yummy Morris, the graduate student Lauren Heard and junior Tavy Diggs.

This SEC and Big 12 showdown began as a competitive display of both teams’ attacking skills.

Florida junior Lavender Briggs and graduate student Kiara Smith made their veteran presence known early on, as Smith scored six points and four rebounds while Briggs scored four points on her own.

Diggs led the way for the Horned Frogs with six points, including a smooth jumper to give TCU an 18-17 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes.

In the second, Heard and Morris continued to run for the Horned Frogs, as they actively claimed the ball and pinned their opponents behind them under the basket. Sophomore Jordyn Merritt proved to be the difference for the Gators in the second quarter, as her six points helped Florida lead 8-0 to close the first half 37-31.

TCU’s persistent and harassing defense created six turnovers in Florida in the first half. But the Horned Frogs were also inclined to return the ball, committing 10 of their own.

The third quarter only exacerbated the Horned Frogs’ inability to score. TCU was pulling 16.7% midway through the third quarter. The turnovers continued to pile up, as the Horned Frogs coughed the ball 16 times in the first 30 minutes.

Briggs continued her dominance in the fourth quarter, as she finished the night with 22 points and six rebounds. Smith didn’t ease off either, as she landed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Heard kept his team in the game, ending the afternoon with 17 points and four rebounds. Senior Okako Adika also had an impressive 11 points and four rebounds, but the Horned Frogs had no answer for Briggs and Smith.

This Sunday afternoon game also saw the return of Florida senior guard Kristina Moore, who played two minutes on the bench early. Moore hasn’t been available since injuring her ankle in Florida’s 70-55 home win over Grambling State.

The Memphis Grizzlies are building on the momentum from a record-breaking victory in their Saturday night clash against host Dallas Mavericks.

The Grizzlies recorded their third straight, season-high win, emphatically, shattering for a 152-79 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The 73-point victory margin was the largest in NBA history, with Memphis’ point total also being a franchise record.

“Man, that feels good. It feels good to be in the history books, especially in front of our home crowd,” said Grizzlies goalie De’Anthony Melton. “And we did it from one to 15. Everyone contributed, everyone played hard and we all got to participate in the game. So that’s always a blessing.”

Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 27 points, a season-high, with two blocks and two steals. Jackson had 9 of 11 shots from the ground, including 6 of 7 with 3 points.

Melton scored 19 points and rookie Santi Aldama recorded his first career double-double with point (18) and rebound (10) totals for Memphis, who got the franchise’s top nine players with a score of two digits.

The Grizzlies shot 62.5% from the ground and 52.8% from 3 points.

“The franchise records are obviously great. Obviously proud of our guys that they don’t think about it,” Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said after his team recorded a record 41 assists. “We’re just motivated by what our standards are every night. (Thursday, that) was pretty complete both offensively and defensively.”

The Grizzlies have tinkered with their winning streak without star Ja Morant, who is sidelined with a knee injury.

Brandon Clarke of Memphis was added to the injury report on Friday and is listed as questionable due to knee pain. Clarke scored 11 points in 15 minutes Thursday.

Memphis faces Dallas for the first time this season after the Mavericks won two of three games last season.

Luka Doncic memorably decided one of those contests with a 3-point pointer when time expired in Dallas’ 114-113 win at Memphis on April 14.

Doncic hasn’t missed a beat this season, although the Mavericks have struggled to regain their footing lately.

Dallas has lost six of its last eight games after losing the back of a home-and-back streak to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The Mavericks recorded a 139-107 victory over New Orleans Wednesday before opening a three-game home game two nights later with a 107-91 loss.

Doncic followed a performance of 28 points and 14 assists in the first clash with the Pelicans, registering 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the rematch.

Kristaps Porzingis (left knee contusion) sidelined Friday for Dallas, which has lost its last three home games. Porzingis’ absence came after Frank Ntilikina returned with a calf injury.

“Every time we seem to get someone back, we lose someone,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said.

Kidd added that his team needed to stop worrying about the referees’ decisions and continue with the game.

“As the game goes on, the transition defense is one of the things that we talked about and need to improve on,” Kidd said. “If we push for calls during live play it puts us in danger.… I think we will better understand as a team when to talk to officials.”

It seems like no game release is safe these days without frame rate graphics and resolutions being counted. That’s fair enough, as games need to be delivered in a proficient and playable state, but it’s easy to forget that we are often spoiled in this modern era of gaming. We take our breath away if the gameplay regularly drops below 30 fps, and with some proprietary Switch titles (mostly) and just about everything on PS5 / Xbox Series X | S, the expectation is often a silky 60 fps. . Oh, and the resolution is supposed to stay high – we can’t have blurry visuals.

Yet some of us of a certain age Remember a time when a lot of games were, technically, pretty messy. Perhaps it was in the “bit wars” era of questionable arcade ports, or even console exclusives that would have the slowdown as a dramatic “feature”. Oh and if you were a Nintendo 64 owner in PAL territories, you got used to almost all games feeling slow, and even the best games were subject to big drops. Seriously, throw the classic it golden 007 nowadays and check out these footage, especially in multiplayer. It is brutal.

But in fact, it’s still fun. The idea for this article came from playing a Switch game that fell at extraordinarily low frame rates, but I kept playing. And so, a few members of the team have participated in games that they play and enjoy despite their deadly sin of not performing well. Because a fun game doesn’t have to be perfect.

In fact, in some of these examples they are far from perfect.

This thought came to me recently, after collapsing and using birthday money for a long time to recover Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order in the Cyber ​​Deals eShop; I even bought the expansion pack because why not. Due to the mixed things I had heard about the game, a 33% discount might not have been enough, but I remembered that it was released by Nintendo so that discount is about as much good as possible.

There were reasons not to buy it, of course – I play it almost exclusively in single player and handheld mode, and a “One Year Later” review I watched said that the difficulty leveling up the characters were very real. And yet, I couldn’t resist. I love current Marvel movies and TV shows, but I have kept childhood memories of the 90s cartoons, especially X Men and Spider Man. They were deals, and when I saw that the game had apparently adopted this style (visually and in some narratives), I had to have it.

The good news is that I’m having a good time despite its flaws. The cutscenes are brilliant, I’m about two-thirds of the way through the initial campaign, and I’ve tried some of the easier challenge missions and add-ons. You press buttons, use special moves, and watch the madness happen, and it’s a good silly game. Most of the levels have fantastic flashbacks and references, and there’s no doubt that the developers have been influenced more by the comics and cartoons than the blockbuster movies. One level I’ve done so far has been quite irritating, but it’s a game where I find it’s easy to overcome its flaws. And the X-Men level – phew, so much good nostalgia.

All the button presses and on-screen shenanigans push the Switch hard, especially in portable mode. It was when I approached a “danger room” (or something, there are a bunch of modes) that I almost broke the game. There were a bunch of big enemies on the screen and the like. was that you could throw explosive cores to kill them quickly. Enemies filling the screen + multiple explosions = broken frame rate.

I could almost hear the CPU and GPU squeaking and I had fallen to single-digit frames in the home stretch of about 20 seconds. It was hard to see what was going on, but I kept pushing the buttons, even adding a special mega-attack combo to further punish the Switch. The countdown ended and … I had won, sort of.

It was gameplay that, if captured and presented by Digital Foundry, would be absolutely shredded by critics. And yet I do not regret anything. It was fun, although it probably shouldn’t have been.

I’m pretty insensitive to frame rates and resolutions, so a game has to be really bad for me to notice! That said… Control (Cloud Edition) had a lot of extremely fuzzy bits due to the nature of cloud streaming.

The compression apparently handles red over red very poorly and Control has a lot of red. There were fights that were a bit like trying to find your keys in a bowl of tomato soup with your face on. Still, the game is extremely good, once back in the light!

Wrestling empire is a tough sell. In still images, it looks like something running on a fifth-generation console. Giving the free eShop demo a chance may still not be convincing due to the fact that virtual wrestlers themselves find it difficult to properly run to the ring without tripping over themselves. Yet this game continues to shine more and more thanks to 10 months of continuous updates by one man: developer legend Mat Dickie.

The major bugs have all been fixed, but on occasion things always go horribly wrong and, when they do, I can’t help but laugh out loud at the absurdity on the screen. A price that must be paid for the very first wrestling video game to allow thirty (fifty on PC!) Wrestlers to appear onscreen at a time, resulting in a massive drop in performance but incredible carnage and absurd both in and out of the ring.

Wrestling remains one of the few boring genres on Switch but thanks to Mat Dickie’s masterpiece every other attempt on the system by the AAA developers pales in comparison. A case of not judging a book by its cover, or for a more precise description, the Stinging Facsimile Sting trying to set up a top turnbuckle missile kick in the announcer’s table only to botch the ‘place and accidentally fall back on the canvas. Ouch!

The name Super Baseball 2020 involves a bold proclamation: By 2020, all professional sports will be a literal paid spectacle played by a litter of cybernetic avatars, adorned with tributes to the past, but with the chilling superpowers of the future.

In this version of 2020, crowds of fuzzy human flesh scream at the bright and extremely attractive robots that attempt – with lost futility – to throw baseballs at them at 200 mph. Instead, they explode after stepping on random landmines buried all over the Outer Field. In the future, viewers got used to patiently waiting for pop-flies with 20-second hang times. Starting pitchers tire evenly over three innings, unless the manager pays a few hundred dollars to improve them. (They can use the money the referees slip them in the middle of the game.) The goal scramble is impossible.

This cacophony is my favorite digital take on baseball. Baseball, after all, is a game of extreme nuance that has never translated particularly well into video games as a whole – only piecemeal, as every Wii-mote reminds us. Thanks to Switch’s retro offerings here in 2021, I can easily go back to this terrible NEO GEO arcade classic, as I have done over and over again for 20 years. Why? Because despite the buttons that don’t really work, the rigged gameplay, and the non-existent balance, for me it’s the funniest version of hitting a ball I’ve ever played.

I find that kind of irony appropriate. After all, time isn’t a factor in baseball – you keep playing until you least fail.

When Tom first asked this question, I struggled to find an answer because * adjusts the tie smugly * I only play good video games. No, but seriously, if I hear that a game is plagued with terrible performance issues, I’m generally going to stay away, at least until the fixes arrive. It’s not like there is a dearth of good software to play with.

My fondest memories of lost frames and choppy gameplay focus mostly on 8- and 16-bit titles that stopped when there were too many sprites on the screen, but back then it was pretty rare for which I think was pretty rad, all things considered. Woah, this game is so awesome my Mega Drive can’t even handle it!

But then I suddenly realized that there could only be one answer to Tom’s poser. If you allow me the impertinence to quote myself, I have already mentioned the perfect example: Mortal premonition 2.

As you play you know it’s a poor technical underachiever. You observe the slowdown and the pop-in and crass animations of the PS2 era and recognize them as objectively terrible …

And yet you continue to play. And you keep playing. You complete the game. You return to the game when fix improves frame rate from ‘laughably excruciating’ to ‘just awful’, and you keep playing. Incredibly, your take-out prints are not tainted by its myriad flaws; legitimate tech reviews are like water off the back of Deadly Premonition’s duck.

And like a duck, it’s unsightly, unsophisticated, and extremely unimpressive compared to the magnificent video game beasts in the wild … but there’s something irresistible about it. We’re not sure if we agree that SWERY’s offbeat horror series jank is somehow necessary or part of the charm, but the fact remains that we got out of Deadly. Premonition 2 filled with a deep and distorted affection for it.

So there you have it: Deadly Premonition 2 – the worst performing game I’ve had a good time with.
