Cape Cod Theater Project Announces Cast of ROADKILL

The Cape Cod Theater Project (CCTP) marks a milestone with the upcoming development of its 100th play, Roadkill or The Cottage on Mountain Lane by Brooklyn-based playwright Amy Evans. The play will be directed by Reginald L. Douglas, Associate Artistic Director of the Studio Theater in DC. This suspenseful four-person drama stars television star Angela Lewis (FX’s Snowfall); actor and singer John Clarence Stewart (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist); actor Scott Thomas (HBO’s I Know This Much is True); and actor and screenwriter Joy Jones (Blue Bloods, Dream Flight.) CCTP will present two live readings from Roadkill, Thursday, July 15 and Saturday, July 17, both at 7:00 p.m. ET.

This is a milestone for the Cape Cod Theater Project, whose mission is to develop new plays for the American Theater. CCTP Artistic Director Hal Brooks adds, “CCTP continues to be an important incubator for new plays, as well as a stimulating environment for artists and students seeking a career in theater. and relevant pieces in a beautiful location, far from commercial pressures and distractions. In addition to drama writing, Evans is dean of the Juilliard School. She previously worked with Reginald L. Douglas on The Champion, with actor Scott Thomas, during his appearance at BRIC Arts in Brooklyn. Douglas has directed and produced many new plays. His next project is a reimagined ensemble production of Dael Orlandersmith’s revered solo piece, Until the Flood.

Roadkill is a romantic thriller that follows a young black couple as they move from New York to the Hudson Valley, following in the footsteps of generations of black farmers. Their dreams are put to the test with the discovery that their new neighbor has a disturbing secret. Angela Lewis plays Tequi and is best known for her role as Aunt Louie in FX’s Snowfall. She has also appeared on Emmy-nominated show The Big C, among others. As Tequi’s partner Cedric, actor and singer John Clarence Stewart, who was most recently seen on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Luke Cage and What / If.

Actor Scott Thomas stars as the unsettling neighbor Morgan. In addition to Evan’s The Champion, Thomas has appeared on stage, in movies, and on television, including HBO’s I Know This Much is True and Younger on Paramount +. Actor and screenwriter Joy Jones (Blue Bloods Monsterland) rounds out the cast as Alice. Jones’ screenplay for the sci-fi short, Dream Flight is in pre-production.

Every week from July 1 to 24, the Cape Cod Theater Project features a live reading of new plays with professional Broadway, film and TV actors bringing words to life. The process is marked by unique post-show talkbacks, which follow each performance at 7:00 p.m. ET. Here, viewers share candid comments with the playwright, director and actors. This feedback can improve and modify the script, sometimes dramatically, from night to night, and ultimately change the end result of the play.

Tickets for individual performances are available for a donation of $ 25 per person. Members of the public can also select an All Access Pass, which grants access to each performance with a donation of $ 100 or more.
