| Elastica http://elasticated.org Elastica are a predominately female British band who emerged to great critical acclaim in 1993. They gained the media's attention playing twenty minute sets full of explosive two minute songs, but have grown to become one of the most highly regarded British bands, having released a brilliant debut album. They are a band who have been under the spotlight since their formation because of their numerous highly placed connections, and have even survived being declared part of the New Wave of the New Wave (did anyone else?). | Whispering Lion http://www.whisperinglion.com/ Whispering Lion combines socially conscious lyrics with music that uplifts the soul and rekindles the spirit. With his distinctive, charismatic style, he is as different and enjoyable live, as on record. He is one of the few American reggae artists to have reached an international audience. Whispering Lion is a genuine original. After years of hard work, to build himself a studio, and to master the arts of recording, producing, dubbing, etc., and of course creating the music and lyrics, in August 2005, the Whispering Lion finished his new, completely independently produced CD: REAL REVOLUTION. The new album was produced working with some very great artists, including members of the Twinkle Brothers, Wadi Gad, Hux Brown, Ben Krames, Wadi B, and Sakai. The CD marks the singing debut of Jah Z. REAL REVOUTION was officially released in May 2006. The music is great, mellow and groovy, roots reggae with rock influences, while the texts are positive, uplifting, and actual as ever, with beautiful female background choirs. Besides influences from Bob Marley and Bob Dylan, hints of JJ Cale, Leonard Cohen, and early Burning Spear can also be heard. The album ends with some real great dub versions of some of the songs. "Thank You", an uplifting reggae ballad from REAL REVOLUTION, was selected for the REGGAE EXPRESS 2006 Compilation CD. This is the second international Reggae Compilation that has included a Whispering Lion tune. The highly acclaimed RAW 2000 Compilation CD included Whispering Lion's 1998 hit tune, "Up 2 Us". Some comments about REAL REVOLUTION (more comments, photos, downloads at whisperinglion.com) "An impassioned personalization of Reggae." Chuck Foster, "The Beat" "Every track and dub essential to the max." dj Doug Wendt, www.midnightdread.com "Crucial modern roots reggae with heart." dj Bahilmon, SKY.fm Roots Reggae "A true masterpiece." | evangoodrow http://www.evangoodrow.com If James Brown had a white son who cut his teeth playing the chitlin’ circuit, you might get something like Evan Goodrow, a soul-singing, blues guitar playing powerhouse. Bottle fed from an early age to soothing sounds of Ray Charles and Solomon Burke, Goodrow’s tastes shifted to the fiery stylings of Jimi Hendrix in his teen age years. Continuing his musical evolution, Goodrow then went on to pursue formal studies as a jazz guitarist, but he quickly had a revelation that he was pursuing something that the cold halls of academia would never hold. Music is about life. Music is about passion. Music is about warmth. “It’s supposed to feel good, and nothing made me feel as good as the soul music I was raised on as a child,” Goodrow states emphatically “Soul music is feel good music by definition. When you hear old Motown classics, or even just when that rhythm hits you, you can’t help but smile. And that’s the feeling I want to bring to people with my music.” Now a rhythm and blues convert, Goodrow has returned to his soul roots, and with the fresh perspective that life’s experience brings, he has made it new again. Brand New Soul. In recent years, an ever expanding fan base has led the EGB to tirelessly tour the Northeast, branching out from the Boston area where he began his musical career. But no matter where they are playing, on any given night the EGB can be found transporting fans from Preservation Hall New Orleans, to the crossroads of delta blues, to a full out Philadelphia funk festival. One fan recently likened the EGB to “a case-study in musical diversity.” - (Read more) |
